Ode to NYLON Magazine

If i were a magazine, i would want to be NYLON.
I picked up the current issue coming home from Byron bay on Monday and could not put it down at all. Front to back read within 2 hours. I think that is a record for me.

For starters, it has the almighty Karen O gracing the front cover. Thats a score one and you havent even opened it. I mean look at that glove she is wearing, H O T! I started to look back at a few covers by NYLON over the past year or so and was remembered by some other awesome covers.....

And then there is the spreads on the inside..... these set on Rila Fukushima was in the August 2006 issue of NYLON and still is one of my fav magazine spreads.

Sydney Design

Sydney Design is upon us once again, and i for one am a little bit excited. Next to the noice logo design by Marcus Piper of "one8one7" fame, there is also a few interesting events happening around this festival.

This is one of the events that is marked in my calender...

I'm a little Teapot

My collection of Teapot's has somewhat slowed down in the past 6 months. Shame really as i was on such a roll with them. Next to my one off Moroccan Teapots which i bought while backpacking through there in 2006, i have a few tin ones from the 50's and silver ones with have been given to me from little old ladies.

This one of the elephant i also own, but just in black. I have been looking for a white one to pair him up with for about a year now. I think i have the rip off design one, but for a whopping $5 who cares? If anyone does see a white one, please let me know....

And then i found this........

So going to make the mission and go to that!
This got me thinking and searching for about a million images of teapots, and i thought i would share my favorites. The ones that i would buy outright and the naff ones that would always go at eye level on a shelf.

Then i saw this one, which would complete any book shelf collection.....

Splendid Happenings

So i have packed my bag and i am about to limp out the door to head to Byron Bay and have myself a Splendid weekend at Splendour in the Grass. After having quite a full on weekend last week i was looking forward to a quiet week with my own thoughts and also some job hunting. This all turned on its head yesterday when i was out with Chiz. I am reminded of the Faith No More song "Its always funny until someone gets hurt....", yeah then its just hilarious - which it was as we continued to drink on. Well walking from one pub to another i decided to fall over, gracefully of course, and bugger up my ankle once again. So now i am seriously heading to Splendour on my best foot, as its my only foot. So with this in mind, and the fact that i may have to go and see my new best friends at St John's before any of the action begins, i thought i would talk you through my new timetable plan of action.

So its a given that i am going to start my Saturday on a slow intro and work my way upwards, beginning with Manchester Orchestra. I saw and shoot these guys in Jan of last year, without knowing a thing about them. They supported Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and also were in for the Laneway's Festival. These 5 young guys blew my mind. They have this close knit vibe on stage and the lead singers voice gave me goose bumps, HONESTLY.

When they dropped their 2nd album a few months ago a didnt give it enough time. But lately it has been high on my rotation, and its climbing still. The main single "Ive got Friends" makes me want to bop along in a festival crowd and sing so very loud.
These guys are going to be my high light of the festival, big call for me i know but i am excited to see these guys again.
So thats at 1pm... from here in on the first day, i will be following Jane and the gang to see some good Aussie bands.. We have Yves Klein Blue, Little Red, Art Vs Science and of course Bluejuice. I am sure that at this point of the day it will get messy!

When 6pm rolls around, i think i will be in fine order for the very nice young French man Yuksek. I also got to shoot this guy last year, this time at Parklife. Im not always 100% on shooting DJ's but his guy was fun. I love how he really gets into his beats and tunes with the live crowd. And not to mention his dress sense!

Then as the dark sets in, we have some traditional bands to kick on with. Juggers are making their home coming at Splendour. I am quite excited with this. I was a major supporter of these 3 boys in 06 and 07, and they made the end of Falls festival last year go off so i may pop in to say hi. But the main acts that i need to catch a small glimpse of on this night will be Janes Addiction, Bloc Party and the Happy Mondays. I am not sold on the Bloc Party.. as that i dont know if i would care to half of each of the other two to see the entire set of Bloc Party. They disappointed me when they played at the Hordern the last 2 times, but i guess nothing beats the metro theatre.... But their new song is quite Electro and i do looove my electro.
Janes Addiction apparently are still in the States though, with one band member quite ill. And as the rumor has it, they may not make it here to play. Which would be a let down for this weekend as the Doves have apparently pulled out aswell.

So that may be my Saturday...... As for Sunday, im running late now and havent even looked at that time table!! That will be something for the plane.

Employment Benefits

Got offered a job today, and i am thinking already on how to spend that first pay check.... these puppies are an option, a good option.

Slightly Obsessed... but in a good way?

So, i am currently thinking that i may be slightly obsessed with someone i have never met. I listen to his dolset tones on the J's approx 3-4 times a week and would like to hear them more frequently. Please let me introduce you to Vijay Khurana.

*sigh*

And to make matters a little worse, he is reporting from Splendour in the Grass this weekend. And if you didnt know, I too shall be making an appearance there this weekend too. I honestly am thinking of making it my mission to track down this man and proclaim my love for his voice. But i put it to you, this is a bad thing? Having a crush on a fella based on his voice and ever so sharp wit?
I guess it can be related to the whole groupie syndrome, where ladies follow dudes in bands around etc etc. I have never been much of a band groupie, although i have dated boys in bands before (i always seem to get the bassist...) i have never openly chased a man, let alone one that only exists to me through the FM radio.

I mean he obviously has good music taste, Double J shirt, rocking the whole LP thing.... and finally having the 3 day facial hair down pat. But can one actually do this? Normally quite a shy lass, I am unsure. Although given a little dutch courage and a little bit of sunshine, anything is possible..... correct?

Allan Sanders

Stumbled across this Alan Sander's Guy this morning, and fully fell head over heels in love with his illustrations. The cute and quirky drawings that this guy comes up with are instantly making it to my screen saver folder (where all the cool images go). And to top it off he lives in Brighton. Awesome. Such a Superhero

I may have to indulge and get at least two of them

folio fillers

weakness wednesdays

So today i spent with my main grrl Chi Chi. Had a good chat and wandering up and down at least 3 times in just one section of Crown Street mulling over what we should do, with Red Bulls in hand. The we went and looked at some pretty sneakers, and i hate to say it but i am torn. No, not between two sneakers but whether or not i should buy the below sexy things or get the tattoo i have been wanting for about 2 years.

So these 180's are H O T to trot. I really wasn't sold on them at the time, but the puppies have grown on me, alot. But now i am thinking, after a discussion with Sam at the East Village, and a bevy or two, that maybe my tat would be better for me at this moment in time. Given that i dont have alot of cash at the moment does put things into perspective, but i also dont want to miss out on things i want because of this. As the lovely Sam put it, 2 years is a long time to put something off. If i do get it, it may close a chapter in my life and allow me to move on with things.
I used to be one of those people that would put off things just to save money and have it there "just in case". But honestly why? Ive have had the high paying job and hated my life. Ive had the moment where i needed to move back home to Dural just to get by. So if something makes me happy i should do it, right?

But getting back to the point in hand, my tattoo. I have wanted this design i came up with for yonkers, but have always thought that my good mate Booga would be the one to put it on me. Seeing he is in Europe i think i can maybe just get it done sneaky-ish. Im think this may be the case.... So Chiz we may actually have a tattoo date tomorrow after all.
